Learn the differences between the different types of counselling. Learn basic definitions, theories and techniques. Learn how culture and developmental issues can be a hindrance to one’s effectiveness as a lay counsellor. Increase one’s self-awareness so that the self will not be a block to helping others. |

To discuss and examine some common blocks to attentive listening such as derailing, filtering. To teach on how to build rapport with our counselees through attending skills and body language. Discuss basic counselling skills such as restatement, paraphrase, reflection and appropriate questioning. |
